The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its stance against signing a peace pact ahead of the upcoming December elections.
Despite ongoing efforts by the National Peace Council to secure the NDC’s commitment, the party made it clear at the National Youth Party Leaders Conference, hosted by the International Republican Institute and the National Peace Council, that it will not agree to any peace pact before the elections.
In his address at the event, NDC Deputy National Youth Organizer Osman Ayariga stated that the party will withhold its commitment to any peace agreement until its demands, including justice for victims of electoral violence during the 2020 General Elections, are met.
“Peace Council and stakeholders here in Ghana still seek justice and we are unapologetic about the request we make. You cannot be preaching peace in the absence of justice. We are not interested in peace conversations in the absence of justice. If there is justice, automatically there will be peace. The two are mutually inclusive. They cannot be preaching one thing and leave another.
“Our national chairman has stated emphatically that we are not signing any peace pact in the absence of the things that we seek and that amounts to justice.
“So we, the youth of this party, we don’t only support it, but we are not interested in any peace conversation in the absence of justice,” he stated.
