The 6th March parades, traditionally held nationwide to commemorate Ghana’s Independence from Britain in 1957, were cancelled in Bawku due to ongoing security concerns.
An anonymous officer from the Bawku Municipal Education Directorate shared that the parade has not been observed in the area since 2022, depriving students of the opportunity to celebrate this significant day.
Several schools in unstable parts of the town, such as Gingande Primary and JHS, Daduri Primary and JHS, Mujuduna Primary, and many others, are experiencing low attendance and are on the brink of collapse due to frequent raids and gun attacks on those areas.
Although killings have decreased since late February, periodic shoot-outs between combatants still occur.
The curfew hours remain from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, but the town continues to be volatile with residents being segregated based on their area of residence.
