Dr. Kissi Adomako, the Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutum, has called for a collaborative effort to devise practical solutions to the challenges facing the mining sector.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV’s ‘The Big Issues‘ with host Serlom Adonoo, Dr. Kissi emphasised the need for all stakeholders to contribute to the conversation and urged government officials to take appropriate actions.

He also added that the processes for securing small-scale mining must be made easier for persons who wants to do proper minning.

“We all need to be at the table to propose solutions that are workable, and we also need to encourage the governmental actors to do the right thing.

“As we talked about regularisation, it was almost like building a house in Accra. Sometimes, your permits are delayed for so long that people proceed to build before they get their building permit.

“I think that this bit with mining is also something we need to look at. Making sure that the process of acquiring the appropriate license to use the proper ways and means to mine is made easier so that many good actors do not become bad actors,” he stated.

Dr. Kissi’s comments were in response to a controversial video involving Ernest Frimpong, the NPP’s presidential candidate for Amenfi East. Frimpong was allegedly seen in the video urging miners to resist law enforcement officers who demand bribes.

The MP’s call for reform highlights the urgent need to address bureaucratic hurdles in mining regulations, which could potentially transform the sector and reduce the inclination towards illegal activities.
