Bawumia visits Hawa Koomson after Ablekuma North attack

Former Vice President and 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has paid a visit to former Fisheries Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson after she was violently assaulted during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun held on Friday, July 11.

The former Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister, who also previously served as the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, was attacked at the St. Peter’s Methodist Church polling station, one of the 19 centres where the rerun took place.

The incident also saw NPP Parliamentary Candidate Nana Akua Afriyie and two journalists assaulted.

In a post on Facebook following the visit, Hawa Koomson thanked Dr. Bawumia and his team for checking on her.

“This morning, H. E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his team visited me at my residence to check on my health after I was brutally assaulted by thugs during the Ablekuma North rerun.

“My family and I are extremely grateful for this thoughtful gesture,” she wrote.

The former Vice President was accompanied by former Suame MP, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Akuapem North MP, Sammi Awuku, and the NPP’s 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Adentan, Akosua Manu.
