National Security operatives in the Ashanti Region have impounded seven trucks believed to be involved in a scheme to divert goods and evade import duties.

The trucks, which were transporting goods from the Tema Port, were intercepted at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region. Authorities say the drivers claimed their final destination was Burkina Faso.

However, investigations suggest that the goods were instead being diverted and offloaded in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region to avoid paying the required customs duties.

The intercepted vehicles were escorted by National Security and Customs officials to Kumasi, where further investigations are ongoing to verify the true destination of the goods and uncover those behind the operation.
Customs officers have taken custody of the impounded trucks, while efforts are underway to trace and question the owners of the goods involved.
Deputy Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, Alhassan Tabsoba, confirmed the operation in an interview with Citi News, noting that authorities are determined to clamp down on such tax evasion tactics.
