Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has fired back at critics following what she describes as an unnecessary backlash against the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi.
Her reaction comes in the wake of a viral video showing Gyamfi handing her an undisclosed amount of money in public—a gesture that has sparked widespread criticism, especially from key figures within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Among those condemning the act is former Member of Parliament Ras Mubarak, who, along with other party sympathizers, has argued that the incident could damage public confidence in the Ghanaian cedi and undermine the credibility of President John Dramani Mahama’s recently launched Code of Conduct for Public Officials.
The code, which promotes integrity, accountability, and transparency in public service, is a cornerstone of Mahama’s broader anti-corruption reform agenda.
Addressing her congregation, Nana Agradaa downplayed the controversy, disclosing that the amount she received from Gyamfi was “only $800.” She urged Ghanaians, particularly members of the NDC, to shift their focus from criticism to emulating what she described as a generous act.
“How much is $800? If you are NDC, don’t let this disturb you. The Bible says that always tap into somebody’s blessings. If you speak against this kind gesture from Sammy Gyamfi and later take money from a government official one day, it becomes a curse on your life,” she said.
Agradaa framed the act not as political misconduct but as a benevolent gesture that should be appreciated rather than condemned.
In the face of mounting public pressure, Sammy Gyamfi issued an apology via his social media platforms. He explained that his intention was purely charitable and had no ulterior motives.
“This was simply a kind gesture to a fellow human being, in line with my daily and lifelong custom of lending a helping hand to people in need,” he wrote.
“I understand the uproar this gesture has generated, particularly from comrades who are sincerely hurt by it. To all such comrades, I AM SINCERELY SORRY for this unfortunate act of indiscretion.”
Despite the apology, the incident continues to dominate public discourse. Citi News sources confirm that Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has summoned Sammy Gyamfi to the Jubilee House for questioning, as the presidency grapples with increasing scrutiny over the incident and its potential implications for internal party discipline and public trust.
