Appointees of the Mahama administration have been urged to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in their conduct and decision-making, according to the newly released Code of Conduct for government officials.

Issued on Tuesday, May 6, the Code of Conduct forms part of the government’s broader effort to promote professionalism, civility, and ethical governance in public service.

The document advises appointees to act in ways that preserve and enhance public trust in the integrity, impartiality, and objectivity of government institutions. It further instructs officials to prioritise the public interest over personal or political gain.

“Uphold the highest standards of integrity, truthfulness and transparency in all dealings and decision making to preserve and enhance public confidence and trust in the integrity, objectivity and impartiality of Government,” the Code of Conduct stipulates.

Appointees are also directed to conduct both their official and personal affairs in a manner that can withstand public scrutiny.

They are expected to be honest in their dealings with colleagues, demonstrate behavior befitting the trust placed in them, and strictly protect sensitive government information in line with their oath of secrecy.

The Code also reaffirms the obligation of all public office holders to adhere to the 1992 Constitution and the laws of Ghana.
