The Accra Metro West District of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has issued a one-week ultimatum to the government to address ongoing security threats and harassment of teachers and pupils at Gray Memorial, Nii Amugi, and Calvary Basic 1 and 2 schools, all part of the Adabraka Cluster of Schools in the Klottey Korle Constituency.

The Association reports that drug addicts frequently trespass on school premises, defecate in front of offices and classrooms, sexually harass female teachers and students, verbally abuse male teachers, and physically assault security personnel.

Addressing a press conference, Bernard K. Asinyo, Secretary of the Accra Metro West District GNAT, stressed the urgency of the situation, calling on authorities to take immediate action to safeguard teachers, students, and the overall learning environment.

“We are saying that the employer should take immediate steps to provide daily security in the school by deploying joint police and military team to ward off the junkies and intruders who on a daily basis have turned the school into their second homes.

“In the interim, the football activities in the school compound should be halted while a meaningful engagement between the leaders of the various football teams and the school management committee agree on detailed procedures which will not conflict with the contact hours of our teachers and pupils.

“We cannot sit for our member’s life to be in danger. We will advise ourselves and when we say we will advise ourselves it will come in various forms. Anything possible under the planet Earth that we could do to ensure that the lives of our members are safe, we will take those steps,” he stated.
