The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has expressed its gratitude to the Interior Ministry for prioritizing the purchase of new fire tenders.
This comes after Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak announced in parliament that discussions are ongoing with the Finance Ministry to secure funds for the new fire tenders, adding that it may be included in the mid-year budget review.
Speaking to Channel One News, Public Relations Officer ADO1 Alex King Nartey, of the GNFS, indicated that the service is thrilled that new fire tenders will be purchased after nearly a decade. He expressed hope that the tenders will be acquired on time to enhance the performance of the fire service.
“We have bemoaned for a very long time that its been over 10 years since we got this kind of resourcing of fire tenders. This has affected our performance that is service and responses so it is a good call. We really appreciate the minister’s course and we are hoping that it comes in early,” he said.
ADO1 Nartey also appealed for a special insurance package to be established to cater for injuries sustained by fire officers in the line of duty and to boost the morale of officers.
“We are hoping that a special fund or a special insurance package can be made available to firefighters knowing that when they get injured in their line of duty, there is a fund that will take care of them,” he added.
