Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, has outlined his expectations for the upcoming 2025 budget under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

He stressed the need to decap crucial funds, including the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GetFund), as promised in the NDC’s manifesto.

“For the first budget of this current NDC government, what we are expecting is to see the decapping of very important funds like the National Health Insurance Fund and the GetFund. These are promises that were made in the manifesto.

“I am of the high belief that if the NHIF is decapped, it will give access to NHIS for them to have more resources to take care of the facilities that have been offering NHIS and then it will also bring about prompt payment,” Acquah stated in an interview on the Channel One Newsroom on Monday.

Beyond the decapping of funds, the MP highlighted the need for policies that stimulate economic growth, generate employment, and enhance disposable income, aligning with the NDC government’s pledges.

“We are also expecting that there will be measures to grow the economy, boost economic growth, create jobs, increase disposable income as promised by the NDC government,” he added.

Additionally, Acquah stressed the importance of allocating funds to complete ongoing infrastructure projects.

“We are also expecting that there will be some allocations for infrastructure development because there are a lot of projects that were started that are yet to be completed. We are hoping that the government will make a lot of allocations so that these projects are completed,” he said.

His remarks reflect growing anticipation for the budget, which is expected to outline the government’s economic and development priorities for the year ahead.
