President John Dramani Mahama shared this update when he held bilateral talks with the leader of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, highlighting the broader context of Ghana’s efforts to strengthen regional cooperation.

“We’re also looking at a possible direct flight from Accra to Ouagadougou, at least once a day. There’s an airline in Ghana that wants to start that flight, and then also how we can increase the supply of power to Burkina Faso – electricity exports to Burkina Faso and also the transit corridor for petroleum products,” he stated.

The initiative to introduce a direct flight route is part of a broader agenda to improve transportation links and facilitate trade and commerce within the West African region. In addition to air connectivity, Mahama emphasised the importance of energy cooperation between Ghana and Burkina Faso.

“Recently, Burkina has bought a storage terminal in Tema, and so we’re looking to see how they can use the pipeline. We have a pipeline to Bolgatanga, and we want to extend it to Ouagadougou so that we can push the fuel and diesel products through,” he added.
