Businessman Alhaji Seidu Agongo has voiced his dissatisfaction over being jointly charged alongside his company, Agricult Ghana, during the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) trial.

Speaking on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV, Seidu Agongo, CEO of Zeera Group, described the decision as both surprising and unnecessary.

“I was charged with Agricult Ghana, my company, and it was a surprise. Why do you charge me, a person who formed Agricult, and charge Agricult again? I don’t know whether you are getting me,” he said.

“I’m the founder of Agricult; you have charged me. I’m the second and third accused,” he added.

On January 28, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine formally withdrew all charges against Dr. Stephen Opuni, former CEO of COCOBOD, and Seidu Agongo.

State Attorney Enam Loh Mensah informed the court that the Attorney-General had directed the withdrawal of all charges, leading to a formal notice being filed.

Dr. Opuni and Seidu Agongo had been facing 27 charges, including defrauding by false pretenses, willfully causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, and corruption by a public officer.

The trial, which began in 2018, focused on allegations that they procured substandard fertilizers for COCOBOD, purportedly causing financial losses to the state.
