Vice Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee tasked to probe the Appointments Committee chaos, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi has voiced his disagreement with the committee’s investigative approach emphasizing its deviation from Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin’s directive.

This comes amid the Minority’s call for the committee’s Chairman, Emmanuel Bedzrah, to recuse himself citing traces of bias.

In an interview with Channel One News, Anyimadu-Antwi who is also the MP Asante Akim Central asserted that the Speaker had initially suggested that the committee’s proceedings should not be public.

According to him, he was confused when the first witness was called in to testify publicly and thus excused himself to seek clarification from his caucus leaders.

He revealed that it was only after speaking with his leadership that he understood the Speaker’s intention, which was to keep the proceedings private.

“Most importantly, I also was of the view that the Speaker had said that we don’t have to go public as a committee. I thought I didn’t hear it right but when we went for the hearing and it was public and the majority leader had to come, I got confused.

“On Wednesday during the proceedings, I had to get up. The whip had called me and I had to go and see my leadership to see the way forward. It was when I went to see my leadership and I was convinced that we didn’t have to go public but we were going public. I saw the sense in what the Speaker had hinted,” he stated.
