Parliament adjourned its proceedings on Friday, February 7, after failing to meet the required quorum for business.

With only 74 Members of Parliament (MPs) present—falling short of the 91 needed—the sitting was rescheduled to Tuesday, February 11.

The Minority caucus criticized the Majority for their absence, questioning their commitment to legislative duties.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin expressed disappointment, noting that despite claiming a super majority, the Majority failed to ensure quorum for the session.

“My members are in their constituencies, they have asked for permission from me. You are a super majority and if that super majority and you cannot marshal its numbers what is your majority for? Mr Speaker look at all these empty seats. A colleague has raised concerns about quorum. I know that Mr Speaker in his wisdom will enforce the laws on quorum,” he stated.

Additionally, the minority stated that it will not participate in the work of the Special Committee established to investigate the chaos that disrupted the ministerial vetting process during the Appointments Committee sitting on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

The decision, according to the minority, stems from concerns over the alleged prejudicial conduct of the committee’s chairman, Emmanuel Bedzrah, Member of Parliament for Ho West.
