The Member of Parliament for Pusiga, Laadi Ayii Ayamba, has alleged that Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin launched an unprovoked attack on the committee clerk, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, during the ministerial vetting on January 30.
According to Ayamba, the incident disrupted the proceedings and made it difficult for the clerk to administer the oath, as directed by the chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor.
She emphasized that the altercation created unnecessary tension during the session, affecting the smooth conduct of the vetting process.
Testifying before the chaos committee on February 7, Ayamba said, “As soon as we began, the minority entered, and what I witnessed was a direct attack by the Minority Leader on the clerk, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, without any provocation. As a woman, I could not sit back and watch this happen. It made me uncomfortable, and it continued for some time before I felt the need to stand up.”
Ayamba recalled that she could not remain silent as derogatory comments from the Minority persisted.
She turned to the Minority Leader, stating “She is a dignified woman and deserves to be treated with respect. Please, can you stop?
“I could not sit there and let this happen. As a woman, I felt it was my responsibility to stand up for Gifty, as she deserves respect.”
