Acting Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has assured that the government is unperturbed by the minority’s political maneuvers regarding the appointment of Johnson Asiama as Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

This follows the minority urging the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to exercise strict scrutiny in its engagements with Dr Asiama to prevent potential global reputational risks to Ghana.

This stems from the government’s recent withdrawal of all charges against Dr Asiama, who was previously facing trial in connection with the collapse of UniBank and UT Bank.

The Minority questioned his credibility to serve as a lead negotiator with the IMF under these circumstances.

Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Wednesday, Kwakye Ofosu addressed concerns raised by the opposition, stating that “Government is not concerned. All the stakeholders within the financial sector, the stakeholders in the economy are people who are well-grounded and know what exactly the issues are regarding the economy and the nation’s finances.”

He noted that political actors often resort to grandstanding and theatrics to further their political interests.

Kwakye Ofosu dismissed the idea that serious investors or players in the Ghanaian economy would be swayed by the minority’s criticisms.

“I am not sure that any serious investor out there or any player in the Ghanaian economy will make decisions based on some issues that the minority are raising, which are not grounded and motivated by politicking,” he explained.
