The Volta River Authority (VRA) has announced the appointment of Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo as the new Acting Chief Executive.

This follows the official end of service for the outgoing Chief Executive, Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa. The handover ceremony took place today, Wednesday February 5 at the Authority’s headquarters in Accra.

Prior to his new appointment, Obeng-Kenzo served as the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Engineering and Operations. With over 25 years of experience in the power sector, he is recognised as an accomplished business executive with a proven track record in supporting cross-functional teams to achieve exceptional results in highly competitive environments. His efforts have consistently promoted institutional growth, increased investment returns, and delivered customer satisfaction.

Obeng-Kenzo holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) and a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is also a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.

His previous roles include Director of Thermal Generation SBU, Plant Manager at the Tema Thermal Power Complex (TTPC), Operations Manager at TTPC, and Project Manager for the Tema Thermal 2 Power Project (49.5MW Siemens Emergency Power Plant).

The Authority extends its best wishes to Ing. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo in his new role, confident that his leadership will drive the VRA’s mission to provide reliable and sustainable energy solutions to Ghana.

PROFILE – EDWARD EKOW OBENG-KENZO

Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo is a seasoned business executive with a focus on supporting cross-functional teams to achieve exceptional, mission-critical results in competitive environments that demand continuous improvement to increase return on investment (RoI) and deliver customer satisfaction.

With 24 years of experience in the power sector, Obeng-Kenzo holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) and a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is also a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.

Before his current appointment, Obeng-Kenzo served as the Director of Thermal Generation SBU, Plant Manager at the Tema Thermal Power Complex (TTPC), Operations Manager at TTPC, and Project Manager for the Tema Thermal 2 Power Project (49.5MW Siemens Emergency Power Plant).

His key responsibilities include providing strategic direction and leadership to departments in the Engineering and Operations branch to innovate and improve efficiencies, ensuring that the VRA remains a market leader. The departments under his purview include Hydro Generation, Engineering Services, Technical Services, Environment & Sustainable Development, Commercial Services, Thermal Generation, Strategic Projects and New Business, Utility Services, Water Resources, and Renewable Energy.

This new chapter in Obeng-Kenzo’s career is anticipated to bring about significant advancements within the VRA, fostering the continued growth and development of Ghana’s energy sector.
