The Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team has visited Tamale as part of its mandate to investigate corruption and recover stolen public resources.

This visit follows a petition received concerning the illegal sale of state lands within the Tamale metropolis.

Led by former Auditor-General Daniel Domelovo and private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, the ORAL team visited several locations in Tamale where state lands had allegedly been sold to private developers under the previous government.

Among the affected properties are lands belonging to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), bungalows of the Regional Coordinating Council, and premises of the Tamale West Hospital, as well as the Regional Hospital.

Addressing the media, Daniel Domelovo expressed his dismay over the situation, stating that such illegal activities undermine livelihoods and the state’s ability to function effectively.

“It is disheartening, to say the least. If you see people’s livelihoods being brought to an end because of a few individuals, I don’t think it is the right thing. Worst of it is the fact that the story as we are hearing it, is that public officers are using their positions to amass wealth at the expense of the public. That is not acceptable,” he said.

Some affected individuals voiced their concerns during the visit.

“We tried to negotiate with the new owner to allow us to stay but to no avail. So as it stands, we can be sacked at any time the owner is ready for his land. We have been battling this issue until the NDC came to office, so we will be glad if the president can do something about this issue of selling state lands,” said Ibrahim Kankani, a concerned citizen.

“They treated us as if we don’t have Tamale at heart simply because we were telling them to do the right thing,” Alhassan Awal, a concerned citizen said.
