The conflict in Bawku, which reignited in October, stems from a chieftaincy dispute after a rival Chief returned to the town following years of exile. The situation has led to frequent violence, resulting in the tragic loss of numerous lives, including women and children. The protracted tensions have severely disrupted daily life, forcing residents to live in fear.

Despite the enforcement of a dawn-to-dusk curfew by security forces, gun attacks continue as combatants exploit gaps in security operations. Economic activities have been hampered, schools and businesses remain closed, and the humanitarian toll continues to escalate, with many displaced residents seeking refuge in neighboring communities.

Security arrangements have been intensified ahead of the visit to ensure the safety of all participants and minimize the risk of further violence during the President’s stay in the area.
