The Ghana Police Service has categorically denied allegations that Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh, the Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has been kidnapped.
Reports indicated that Mr. Prempeh, who is also the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano North, was abducted following an incident where certain individuals reportedly stormed a local radio station owned by him and vandalized a warehouse.
Additionally, one of the vehicles belonging to the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano North was set on fire.
In a statement issued on December 9, the police labelled these reports as “false,” affirming that they have maintained communication with the NADMO Director-General.
The police have urged the public to dismiss the unfounded kidnapping claims and to disregard them with the seriousness they warrant.
“The Ghana Police Service would like to refute claims circulating on social media suggesting that Hon. Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh, the Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has allegedly been kidnapped.
“We wish to categorically state that this claim is false and the Police have been in contact with him and providing him with all the security support he needs as the Parliamentary candidate of Ahafo Ano North Constituency in the Ashanti Region. We, therefore, urge the public to disregard the false claim of kidnap and treat it with the contempt it deserves.”
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) headquarters in Accra was vandalised by individuals alleged to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The incident, which occurred earlier on Monday, December 9 involved the destruction of photos of current and past executives of NADMO.
Officials of the organisation who spoke on anonymity reported that the vandals stormed the NADMO office, pulling down and damaging framed photographs of key officials.
The officials told Citi News Samuel Ackom that around 11 am, a group of over 20 individuals claiming to be from the NDC walked in asked the staff to move out and demanded the keys to the organisation’s warehouses.
They stated that this was because their party had won the elections.
As a result, they rushed to the reception, broke glass, and pulled down photos of current and past executives of NADMO.
