The Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly has been ransacked and looted by individuals who reportedly claim to be residents of Maamobi.
The incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 8.
The unknown assailants made away with several items, including three concrete mixers, two air conditioners, four motorbikes, two tricycles, laptops, computers, wheelbarrows, and other equipment. However, reports indicate that three of the stolen concrete mixers have since been recovered.
A staff member of the Assembly recounted the incident to Channel One News, describing the aftermath as shocking and disruptive.
“I was returning from Bawku where I cast my vote when I got a call at the airport that people had come to loot our office. I quickly ran home and called one of the assemblymen, Baaba Alaji who said he was in the office with two of his colleagues who are also assemblymen.
“According to Hon. Awuni, some of the assailants scaled the wall and entered. One of our staff was threatened with a knife. He escaped and called one of the assemblymen. The Assemblyman said he met the assailants on his way to the office.
“He stopped them and tried to engage them but they left. He asked someone to follow them to identify where they sent the things so we could retrieve them. The assailants are alleged to be National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters but I don’t know why NDC supporters will do this because they are on the winning side. If you are on the winning side, there is no need to do this”, she stated.
She added that the police have been there to take inventory of the situation but are yet to make arrests.
