Andy Appiah-Kubi, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, has announced his decision to retire from active politics following his defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, the outgoing MP confirmed that he will not seek a return to parliament or political life.
Provisional results from the election indicate that Appiah-Kubi polled 8,933 votes, far behind the winner, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, who secured 26,926 votes. The NDC’s candidate, Kofi Asamoah, garnered 2,469 votes.
Reflecting on the outcome, Appiah-Kubi expressed his commitment to supporting a smooth transition of leadership.
“At the point where there is a need for change, as in hand over the baton for who is coming and I don’t want to interfere in any way during his time or within the period that he will be representing the people of Asante Akyem North.
“So, as far as I am concerned, my time is over and he takes over from me now till the end of his term. What I can promise you is that I will not seek a return to politics,” he stated.
