In a tightly contested election, Sylvester Tetteh of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lost the Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro parliamentary seat to Felix Okle Akwetey of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Akwetey secured victory with 37,473 votes, surpassing Tetteh’s 27,888 votes. Independent candidate Frank Mensah trailed behind with 347 votes. Out of 66,218 votes cast, 65,708 were valid, with 510 ballots rejected.
This loss is part of a series of setbacks for the NPP in the 2024 elections, as several high-profile members of parliament have also been unseated. Among them is KT Hammond, MP for Adansi Asokwa, who received 13,275 votes, losing to Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani of the NDC, who garnered 14,229 votes.
In Okaikwei South, Dakoa Newman lost her seat, and Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the MP for Ablekuma West, recorded a disappointing performance, failing to retain her position.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful secured only 26,575 votes losing the seat to NDC’s Rev Kweku Addo who won the Ablekuma West Constituency Parliamentary seat with 31866 votes.
Henry Quartey, the incumbent MP for Ayawaso Central, was also defeated by Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu of the NDC. Tubazu emerged victorious with 29,755 votes, while Quartey managed 23,345.
These results underscore the significant shifts in Ghana’s parliamentary landscape, with the NDC making notable gains at the expense of the NPP.
