Three people, including a schoolgirl, have tragically lost their lives in Bawku following a gunfight on Friday, November 29, 2024. This brings the death toll in the area to 32 after another individual was killed just two days earlier.
The violence escalated around the Gingande-Zongo area, where the exchange of gunfire continued from midnight until 1 PM, with reports indicating that several houses were also set on fire.
In addition to the fatalities, many others have sustained varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
The conflict, which resurfaced in late October 2024, has led to frequent shootings, particularly during curfew hours. The situation remains tense, with both residents and security forces struggling to contain the violence in the region.
The renewed conflict reportedly intensified following the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre from exile, along with recent ambushes targeting travellers, which have further inflamed tensions in the area.
