One more person has been killed in Bawku following a midnight gun battle in the area.

Sporadic gunfire was heard throughout the night, but the situation escalated around 4 a.m. when combatants clashed near the Zongo-Gingande enclave, close to the Bawku Divisional Police Station.

The violence resulted in the death of one person and the destruction of a business venture.

The deceased, identified as Awudu Fudu, died in the shootout. His death brings the total number of fatalities to 27 since the conflict reignited in October 2024.

Despite ongoing security concerns, the Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed it is prepared to hold elections in the Bawku Central constituency and other nearby areas.

This follows earlier fears that residents in the region might be unable to vote on December 7 due to the conflict.

Currently, a 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. curfew has been imposed on the area, but gunmen continue to defy the curfew and carry out attacks.
