Former Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has called on Ghanaians to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December elections, advocating for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to restore Ghana’s football glory.

Speaking during an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, on Tuesday, November 26, Mr Ankrah expressed deep concerns over the Black Stars’ poor performance in the recent AFCON tournament.

He criticized the NPP government for failing to rejuvenate the team, claiming that under their leadership, the Black Stars have stagnated and declined in quality.

Ankrah called for a change in leadership, emphasizing the NDC’s commitment to revitalizing football in Ghana.

“The first thing we have to do is to vote a new government into power. Because obviously, if this government could do anything it’s been eight years they have not been able to do anything.

“And we are going from bad to worse. So you need a government with a fresh mandate with new ideas so that we can reset. When you do that then we will look at all the issues objectively.”

He proposed that the players should be motivated to compete for the team’s honour without any sense of entitlement.

“And I think that the FA has a part to play, the team, the technical bench also have a part to play. The players, we should get them to a point where they will realise that when you are called to play for the national team, it’s an honour. So you should be ready to play from next to nothing. We need to psyche them, but it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t reward them.”
