The Electoral Commission has supervised the burning of ballot papers for the Ahafo and Volta Regions. This follows the identification of errors in the serialisation of these ballot papers.
The commission thus ordered a reprinting of ballot papers. Deputy Director of Research at the Electoral Commission Fred Tetteh addressed journalists on the number of ballot papers destroyed.
“I must say that what we have done here was not meant for the advantage or disadvantage of any political party. You were all witnesses to what we did just now. Now I would like to take you through the figures for the materials we burnt this afternoon.
“We brought in a total of 184 Presidential ballot paper bags for the Volta Region. Presidential for Ahafo, we came in with 67 bags. For the Volta Region parliamentary, we came in with 66 bags and for Ahafo, we brought in 21 bags. I believe when you speak to the political party agents who were with us at the printing house, they will testify to these figures.
“In terms of the content, for presidential, the 100 booklets; we had 9,536. Volta Region, 50 booklets; 1,119, 25 booklets; 1,082, 10 booklets; 1,970. For Ahafo Presidential, we came with 3,344 booklets of 100s, 393 booklets of 50s, for 25 booklets we brought 401 and then for 10 booklets we came with 654 booklets. The same figures run for parliamentary because the same number of presidential ballots are the same number for parliamentary. So those are the figures for both presidential and parliamentary.
“All the stakeholders here endorsed the disposal certificate, we are going to run a copy for all of you so you take it to your offices and your political parties”, he stated
The Electoral Commission (EC) recalled ballot papers printed for the Ahafo and Volta regions due to serialisation errors.
Samuel Tettey, the EC’s Deputy Commissioner, announced this during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Friday, November 15, 2024.
Tettey explained that while the overall ballot printing process had gone smoothly, a serialisation issue was identified on some of the ballot papers designated for the two regions.
To address the problem, the EC has reassigned the printing responsibilities. Buck Press, which was initially tasked with printing the Volta region’s ballots, will now handle Ahafo’s, while Acts Commercials, previously assigned to Ahafo, will take over the printing for Volta.
