Democracy Hub: 39 protesters remanded

Ralph St. Williams, a prominent member of the Democracy Hub, and 38 others have been remanded into police custody for two weeks.

The arrests occurred following violent clashes between protesters and police at the 37 Intersection in Accra on Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22.

Due to the large number of defendants, their pleas were heard in groups across Circuit Courts 6 and 10. On Tuesday, September 24, 10 individuals were remanded, followed by an additional nine protesters later that day. The remaining 20 were subsequently arraigned and remanded.

In total, 44 people, including some organizers of the event, were detained. The accused, who pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful assembly, unlawful damage, assaulting a police officer, and conspiracy to commit a crime, appeared before Circuit Court 6.
