The annual Republic Day Lecture organised by the One Ghana Movement has been held, with a strong call for member states within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to work together to enhance sub-regional cohesion, peace, and prosperity.

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, delivered a stirring address at this year’s Republic Day Lecture, urging ECOWAS Heads of State to deepen collaboration in strengthening the regional bloc.

Speaking on the theme “ECOWAS and the Breakaway of the Sahelian States,” the former leader, who once ruled as both military and civilian president, emphasised the dangers of overdependence on foreign powers for security and economic development.

Mr. Obasanjo called on member states to work together to build resilience, promote regional integration, and ensure long-term security and prosperity for the people of West Africa.

“What it is, we will remain in this region of West Africa together, and we must understand that as reality to make amends to walk together,” he said.
