Held at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra, the AgriFair — running from Friday, June 20 to Sunday, June 22 — is being hailed as Ghana’s largest showcase and sale of fresh farm produce.

On its first day, it attracted massive crowds eager to buy fruits, vegetables, grains, spices, and locally processed foods directly from producers.

By mid-afternoon, several vendor stalls had been cleared out. Some shoppers expressed delight at the fair’s popularity, while others voiced frustration at missing out.

Madrack Ocran, Head of Marketing and Sales at Fresh Logistics, a subsidiary of Agri-Impact Limited, noted that their stock for the entire fair was gone by 2 p.m.

He said additional produce was being arranged to meet the weekend demand.

“We’re excited by the response,” Ocran said. “This proves the need for events like this more than once a year. Kudos to Channel One TV and Citi FM.”

“It’s been a very good event. for a start I think we’ve had a number of people troop in. The interest is there. So it is a good initiative for Channel One. So we look forward to more editions maybe more than once a year,” he stated.

Francisca Ocloo, Communications Officer IITA BBEST “So far it’s been okay. We’ve received a lot of visitors and we’ve educated them our technology and they have shown interest.”

The AgriFair, an initiative of Channel One TV, is designed to strengthen farm-to-consumer connections, promote innovation in agribusiness, and encourage youth participation in agriculture.

Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, who toured the fairgrounds, praised the event’s impact and called for greater investment in similar initiatives that link producers to local markets.

With a record turnout on day one, organisers are restocking and scaling up for the rest of the weekend. The fair runs daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with free entry to the public.
