Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has successfully undergone surgery for prostate cancer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, according to a statement issued by his wife, Prof. Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta, on Monday, June 16, 2025.
The statement confirmed that Mr. Ofori-Atta underwent a robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy on Friday, June 13. The four-hour procedure was aimed at treating prostate cancer and, according to his medical team, was successful.
“The doctors are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime,” Prof. Ofori-Atta stated.
She acknowledged the emotional strain the family has faced, particularly in light of recent developments involving the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which issued a red alert on Mr. Ofori-Atta just days before his scheduled surgery.
“Kenneth has always been resilient. But this has been very difficult; with the OSP choosing the period just before his surgery to declare a red alert on him,” she said, adding that he remains focused on his recovery.
Prof. Ofori-Atta expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support from the public, including prayers from friends, family, and pastors.
“Our family is truly grateful for the support and prayers of many people and pastors,” she concluded.
Mr. Ofori-Atta served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 2017 to early 2024 and played a key role in the country’s economic management during the Akufo-Addo administration.
