Farmers have raised concerns about the poor road infrastructure connecting farmlands to major markets and urban centres, which continues to hamper agribusiness operations across the country.
Speaking on the Citi Business Festival On-Air Series with Vivian Kai Lokko, Sandra Snowden, the Co-Founder of Hendy Farms, highlighted the numerous challenges facing farming and agribusiness, with transportation being one of the most critical.

According to her, inadequate road networks significantly disrupt the supply chain, especially for farms located in rural communities.
She emphasised that the condition of roads in farming areas like Dodowa severely affects the timely transportation of produce to Accra and other markets.
“We are in Dodowa, so the road coming to our farming facility is terrible, which also affects distribution. So getting products into Accra is a challenge in itself. Even trucks coming to harvest fruits to load and distribute get stuck on the road.

“That is one big issue that we have. During the rainy season, it is a no-go area; we have to find different routes. We are not isolated. We are in a community, so there are other farms, villages and townships around us, so they all get affected by it,” Snowden said.
