The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has disclosed that over GH₵2 billion has been disbursed to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to cover transfers for the first quarter of 2025.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, he noted that all statutory fund transfers for the period, specifically January, February, and March, have been made promptly and in full.
The timely release of funds, according to him, has allowed the National Health Insurance Scheme to clear outstanding arrears owed to healthcare providers and to implement key health initiatives, including the government’s flagship programme “Mahama Cares.”
“Transfers to all statutory funds have been made promptly and in full. All transfers due the National Health Insurance Fund for the period covering January, February, and March have been paid in full. A total amount of GHC2,033,469,607 has been disbursed to the National Health Insurance Fund.
“This has enabled the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to settle arrears owed to the healthcare providers and to implement the Free Primary Healthcare and the Ghana Medical Care Trust Programme otherwise known as Mahama Cares,” he said.
Ato Forson further reiterated the government’s commitment to improved healthcare delivery in the country.
