The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has identified 48 mobile lending apps as the source of a troubling surge in cyberbullying and privacy violations, warning Ghanaians against engaging with these unregulated platforms.
In just the first five months of 2025, the Authority received 377 cyberbullying complaints related to digital lending apps, compared to the 228 cases reported in 2024.
The apps, many of which are not registered with the Bank of Ghana or the Data Protection Commission, reportedly disburse unsolicited microloans and later employ aggressive recovery tactics. Victims say their contact lists, private images, and sensitive data are used as weapons to publicly shame them into repaying.
Among the apps named by the CSA are Miniloan, Devtage Loan, mix loan, ozzy money-cash, Plus Cash Arrow, Cash Arrow, FundsCredit, Lever Credit, Getloan and Upper Loan, Kcash, Bestloan, Gcash, DaraLoan, Loanbase, Taploan, Gh Loans, Sune Loans, Urgent money, Sparkloan, Skyloan, Loancloudgh, and Pea money among others.
“These apps operate without legal backing and often disregard consumer protection laws. Engaging with them exposes users to serious risks, including data breaches, harassment, and financial loss,” the CSA stated.
The Authority is urging the public to verify the legitimacy of any digital lending service before use and to report any abuse or suspicious activity via its 24/7 cyber incident response platform.
