The 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been granted access to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on Friday, May 30, where embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has allegedly been transferred.
Earlier, Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin was also granted access upon his arrival at the NIB facility.
Wontumi was moved from the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to the NIB amid rising public and political interest in his ongoing legal woes.
He is currently under investigation for alleged money laundering, fraud, and causing financial loss to the state.
Despite being granted bail to the tune of GHc50 million with two justified sureties, Wontumi has struggled to meet the bail conditions, resulting in his continued detention.
