Former Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Kirk Koffi, has cautioned against the government providing solar panels for free, arguing that Ghana’s limited resources make such a policy impractical.

Speaking on the issue in an interview on Channel One TV‘s Face to Face on Tuesday May 20, Koffi emphasised that while tax incentives could encourage the adoption of solar energy, fully subsidising installations would not be a sustainable approach for the country.

“We are a developing country. We don’t have that much—the resources are limited, probably some incentives, tax incentives—but for government to say bring it free, no,” he stated.

Adding “I would not recommend. Pay for it because you are going to get the benefits yourself.”
