Police in the Eastern Region have apprehended Solomon Siaw Tetteh, the man suspected to be the mastermind behind a notorious carjacking syndicate that has terrorised parts of the Krobo enclave.

Tetteh had previously eluded capture during a police raid on his residence in Nuaso, a suburb of Odumase, where three of his alleged accomplices were arrested. That raid marked a turning point in the investigation, helping law enforcement close in on the fugitive.

Acting on fresh intelligence, police tracked Tetteh to another hideout in the same area, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Tetteh and his gang are believed to be responsible for a string of vehicle thefts in communities including Nkurakan, Asesewa, Somanya, and the Ada Magazine area. The stolen vehicles were reportedly dismantled and their parts repurposed—most bizarrely into coal pots.

The suspect’s transport to the Koforidua Divisional Headquarters was disrupted after word reached the police that enraged youth in Nkurakan had blocked the main road, allegedly seeking vigilante justice for his involvement in thefts in their community. Officers quickly rerouted to avoid escalation.

At the Koforidua Central Police Station, Tetteh was presented alongside several recovered vehicles and tricycles believed to be linked to his operations. In spite of the mounting evidence and the presence of several victims, he maintained his innocence.

Police say further arrests are expected as the investigation unfolds. Solomon Siaw Tetteh is expected to be charged once investigations are concluded.
