Political analyst, Dr. Jonathan Asante-Otchere has called for accountability measures against Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board(GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, over his involvement in a controversial cash gift saga that has sparked widespread criticism.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Dr. Asante-Otchere said the incident risks damaging the integrity of the Mahama-led administration and must be dealt with decisively.
“As smart and intelligent as he is, I think that he lost his guard on that particular score. Probably he never thought that something of that sort will come out,” he said.
He continued: “So he will need to purge himself before the people of Ghana, purge himself before the grassroot, purge himself before the president. And since it affects the corporate image and integrity of the government, obviously some sanctioning will have to come from the presidency,” he added.
The cash gift saga has stirred unease among sections of the NDC grassroots and civil society groups, with some demanding disciplinary action against the embattled public official.
President John Dramani Mahama, who has committed to running a clean and accountable government under his 120-day social contract, is yet to publicly comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi, has reportedly met with the Chief of Staff following his summons to the Presidency over the viral video showing him handing cash to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
While the exact details of the meeting remain confidential, it is understood that the discussion was aimed at addressing mounting public concerns and shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Chief of Staff is expected to brief President John Mahama, who is currently in Lomé, Togo, attending the African Union Debt Conference.
