The Ashanti Regional Fire Service has expressed worry about the increasing cases of brutalities and assaults on firefighters while on duty.

According to the Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Peter Tetteh, the trend is problematic and poses a serious threat to the safety and effectiveness of personnel in the discharge of their duties.

He made these remarks during the commemoration of International Firefighters’ Day, held under the theme: Appreciating Our Heroes: Say No to Firefighter Assault and Fire Truck Vandalism.

He claimed that in 2024 alone, the region recorded nine attacks on its officers, with three additional mob attacks reported in the first quarter of 2025.

“It’s very disheartening to hear of nine attacks on fire fighters within the region in 2024 alone. In the first quarter of 2025, the Command recorded three separate mob attacks on Konongo, Mampongten and Ejisu fire appliances and men. Those that actually involve in this criminal and uncalled for act are not the victims of fire but rather the lawless, undisciplined and criminals. Through their act, innocent and vulnerable victims of fires who needed the services of the fire fighters are denied, leading to loss of properties and lives.”

ACFO II Tetteh strongly condemned these acts and called on the public to collaborate with firefighters, stressing that they risk their lives daily to protect lives and property.
