The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a final warning to all traders operating in the streets and other unauthorized spaces within the Central Business District (CBD) to vacate the enclave by May 5, 2025, or face forced removal.

In a public notice, KMA reminded traders that a prior deadline of May 1, had already been communicated for them to voluntarily remove their goods, tables, metal structures, and other items from the streets.

“The Management of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) wishes to inform all traders, particularly those plying their trade in the streets, median and other unauthorized areas within the Central Business District (CBD) of Kumasi, to cease forthwith,” the statement read.

The directive also targets individuals who trade from parked vehicles within the CBD, cautioning them to immediately halt the practice.

Affected areas include Adum, Kejetia, Pampaso, Dr. Mensah, the Zoo area, Dunkirk, Roman Hill, the surroundings of Kejetia Market, Adehyeman, and Alarba.

“From May 5, 2025, trading in the streets and other unauthorized areas of the Central Business District is prohibited,” the Assembly warned, urging traders to dismantle all wooden and metal trading structures ahead of enforcement.

The KMA says the exercise forms part of efforts to decongest Kumasi’s inner city and restore order within the bustling commercial enclave.

“All traders are urged to comply fully with these directives to avoid forced ejection,” the Assembly emphasized.
