President John Dramani Mahama has nominated seven Justices of the Court of Appeal for elevation to the Supreme Court of Ghana.

The nomination, in line with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution, is expected to strengthen the apex court with experienced judicial minds amid increasing constitutional and governance challenges.

The nominees are:

  1. Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei

  2. Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh

  3. Justice Senyo Dzamefe

  4. Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo

  5. Justice Philip Bright Mensah

  6. Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo

  7. Justice Haflsata Amaleboba

In a formal communication addressed to the Acting Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the President expressed confidence in the credentials of the nominees and urged the Judicial Council to expedite consideration of their appointments.

“Attached are their Curricula Vitae. I trust that the Council will expedite action on their considerations,” the letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama read in part.

Parliament’s vetting committee is expected to commence proceedings in the coming days once the nominations are formally laid before the House.
