The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has criticized the Mahama administration for failing to fulfill its promise of establishing a lean government.

Speaking during a debate on the 2025 budget on Tuesday, March 25, Afenyo-Markin pointed out the growing number of political appointments, especially at the Jubilee House, questioning the need for multiple spokespersons, communication directors, and research staff.

Afenyo-Markin also highlighted the appointment of multiple presidential advisors, suggesting that these roles impose significant costs on the nation.

He accused the government of indecisiveness and failing to honor its commitment to streamlined governance.

“How many chief of staffs do we have? They claimed they were going to form a lean government, let me expose them. They have appointed more political appointees than ministers. Go to Jubilee House, spokesperson for this, deputy spokesperson, communication director, research that, research this. And you claimed that a lean government- which lean government? So many presidential advisors, all coming at a cost to the country.

“Meanwhile, you promised Ghanaians a lean government. To worsen it, this government has demonstrated to be indecisive.”
