President of IMANI-Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has called on former Gender, Children, and Social Protection Minister, Adwoa Safo, to submit her revelations on corruption within the school feeding programme to Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL).
He believes that full disclosure of such findings is crucial for accountability and governance reforms.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, March 22, Cudjoe stressed the importance of making Adwoa Safo’s claims public and ensuring proper investigation.
“I was actually interested in Adwoa’s rendition of what might have happened to the School Feeding Fund. I think she should either send the report to ORAL or just tell us when these audits were done so we can go for the audit report. Those are the things we want to hear,” he said.
His remarks come after Adwoa Safo, in an interview on Wontumi TV on March 19, alleged that Ghana’s school feeding programme had been riddled with corruption and mismanagement. She revealed that former President Nana Akufo-Addo had instructed her to audit the programme before releasing funds for her ministry. However, she claimed that after submitting the audit report to the Cabinet, the President distanced himself from the directive due to internal government pressure.
Cudjoe linked these revelations to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections, arguing that corruption played a major role.
He questioned the party’s reluctance to embrace transparency, suggesting that the NPP must be willing to confront corruption head-on.
“Unless the NPP believes that it is a secret organization—which I think it is not, because their motto is ‘Development in Freedom’— and if you’re doing an inquisition of this sort, then you must be ready to bear it all,” he added.
Cudjoe also criticized the backlash against Adwoa Safo for speaking out, highlighting that some figures within the party often discuss corruption concerns without facing similar scrutiny.
He asserted: “If all those persons who are now calling on her to be circumspect have done their best, I don’t think the lady will be speaking the way she spoke.”
