The fire outbreak at Adum in Kumasi has left two individuals, including a fire officer, with varying degrees of injuries.
This was disclosed by DO3 Peter Addai, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana National Fire Service in the Ashanti Region.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 21, has also destroyed several shops and caused widespread panic among traders.
According to DO3 Addai, the fire quickly spread through a section of the bustling market, forcing traders to scramble to salvage their goods.
Speaking to Channel One TV, he disclosed that fire personnel faced significant challenges in their efforts to control the blaze.
Despite these hurdles, the team worked tirelessly to douse the flames and prevent further destruction.
The injured fire service personnel is currently receiving medical attention, alongside the other person affected by the incident.
“Assess is a problem, it is a major problem. So, at a point, the tenders had to be packed very far from where the fire and we extended lengths of hoses, which impacted the impact of the water. Also, two people, I understand suffered some injuries, including a fireman and one civilian.
“The civilian had some debris falling on his head and was rushed to the nearby hospital but the fireman suffered some injuries on his leg,” he stated.
