The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor as the new Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was officially announced by the Police Administration on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

This move is part of a broader restructuring initiative within the Ghana Police Service aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and leadership effectiveness.

Prior to her appointment, DCOP Donkor served as the Safety and Security Head of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), where she played a pivotal role in elevating football security standards both locally and across Africa.

As Chairperson of the GFA’s Safety & Security Committee, she ensured high-security protocols at domestic and international matches. Additionally, she serves as a Safety and Security Officer for the Confederation of African Football (CAF), overseeing the safety of major continental tournaments.

Beyond her contributions to sports security, DCOP Donkor is also the CEO of Police Ladies FC, a leading club in the Ghana Women’s Premier League. Under her leadership, the club has emerged as a dominant force in women’s football, further highlighting her versatile leadership capabilities.

The reshuffle also includes key appointments at the top leadership level of the Ghana Police Service.

DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo-Danquah has been named Director-General for Research and Planning, while Commissioner of Police (COP) Paul Manly Awini will head the Service Workshop in Accra. These appointments are part of the newly reconstituted 31-member Police Management Board, reflecting the IGP’s commitment to strengthening the service’s leadership framework.
