On Monday, March 17, 2025, a soldier from the 11th Mechanized Battalion was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen, triggering what residents describe as a military crackdown.
Speaking to Citi News, the Assembly Member for the Daduri Electoral Area, Rahman Bukari Asaana, condemned the actions of the military, calling them unfortunate.
Meanwhile, Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has condemned the alleged military assault on women, children, the elderly, and innocent youth on Tuesday night, March 18, 2025.
He called the actions unacceptable and pledged to demand full accountability from the military.

“The conduct of the military is unacceptable,” Ayariga stated, adding, “While I regret the tragic killing of a military officer and condemn that dastardly act, I equally detest the ransacking of homes, the beating of innocent civilians, and the holding of an entire town to ransom. The rule of law must prevail. Soldiers responsible for maintaining law and order should never resort to such actions.”
