The Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG) has called on the Ministry of Finance to abolish the excise tax on fruit juices in the next budget.

This appeal follows the government’s announcement of several tax removals in the 2025 budget, including the E-levy, Emissions tax, and Betting tax.

Speaking to Channel One News, FABAG President Reverend John Awuni noted that Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson likely prioritized these tax removals due to their immediate impact.

However, Rev. Awuni remains hopeful that the excise tax on fruit juices and other beverages will be scrapped in future budgets.

“Generally, I think a couple of taxes were removed, and all cannot be done at the same time, so essentially, per the judgment of the minister, we had the carbon emission taxes, we have the E-Levy, Betting tax, all proposed to be abolished. Essentially, the excise tax that is applied on fruit juices and other beverages was not removed.

“I think that at this point, the minister may think that they are doing it step by step, so these are the most critical ones to be abolished, but I believe that in the mid-year budget they will consider that,” he stated.
