Alexander Roosevelt Hottordze, the Member of Parliament for Central Tongu, has commended the government’s allocation of GH¢51.3 million towards the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank.

The bank, a key campaign promise of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 general elections, is aimed at providing financial assistance to women-owned businesses and fostering economic empowerment.

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to ensuring the bank’s establishment, reinforcing the government’s dedication to women’s economic advancement.

Presenting the 2025 Budget Statement, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced: “Mr. Speaker, we have also allocated GH¢51.3 million as seed fund for the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank.”

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, Hottordze emphasized the potential impact of the initiative on women entrepreneurs nationwide.

“Look at the Women’s Development Bank that they have allocated some money for, the seed fund of 51.8 million. If that particular bank is set up now, it is a bank that is to support women-led businesses.

“Our mothers will no longer be suffering. There are a lot of enterprising women in this country, but their problem has been funding to do anything. So if that is given to them, they are gone,” he said.
