The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) in the Ashanti Region has announced a temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant from Monday, March 17, to Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

The shutdown has become necessary to install new interconnection pipelines and foot valves at the Suame Roundabout, aimed at improving water supply across the Kumasi Metropolis and surrounding areas, including Offinso.

In a statement, GWL acknowledged the inconvenience but assured the public that engineers would work swiftly to restore supply within the scheduled timeframe.

“This measure is in line with GWL’s commitment to enhance the water supply capacity from the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to improve water service delivery and address the supply challenges in the metropolis,” the statement read.

The company has advised hospitals, schools, and other essential service providers to store enough water ahead of the shutdown.

GWL apologized for the inconvenience and urged consumers to bear with the process, emphasizing that the upgrade will lead to better and more reliable water supply.
