Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Parliament, Abena Osei-Asare has called for the inclusion of robust measures to incorporate the informal sector in the country’s revenue generation system.

Her statement comes ahead of the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy presentation in parliament by the Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.

Speaking  with Channel One News on Tuesday, March 11, she underscored that the inclusion of the informal sector is crucial as it will aid the country in generating more revenue without imposing extra taxes or increasing existing ones.

The Atiwa East lawmaker called on the Mahama government to abide by their commitment to avoid the imposition of new taxes.

“I expect that they stay true to Ghanaians. When they said they are going to reduce or take out certain taxes, I expect that they will stay true to Ghanaians on that.

“In the meantime, I also expect that they don’t have to increase or come up with new taxes, but what they can do, just as we have programmed in the medium-term revenue strategy that we left for them, is to make sure they bring the informal sector on board.

“Once they bring the informal sector on board, they have widened the tax net without necessarily increasing taxes,” she said.
